Travelling : How 1 Country Became 4 – Our Schedule

I’m really starting to see how time consuming traveling can be, and I right ?

About a month ago, my wife and I decided that we wanted to get out of Switzerland and enjoy more of this time we have together, with nothing to do. We were spending our days visiting places we have already seen, or going to new places but quite close to home. The change in scenery was small and going back to the same question ‘What should we do tomorrow?’ got old. We laid out a plan and found ourselves a place to stay in Bruxelles, Belgium. As we are still in the ‘homeless’ situation, we are staying in a friends room while she is off on holidays, but the scenery for sure has changed ! We went from the ‘same old same old’ to eating Belgium fries and drinking local beer in a typical Belgium neighbourhood.

But, we didn’t start here! In order to leave Switzerland, we had to take over a 12 hour trip by train though Germany and Luxembourg. We left my wife’s bff and Grimes at 6am the other day and hopped on the first of our many trains, all organised thanks to Trainline. We took our first break in Basel for some breakfast before we kept up our speed and got back on the road. We didn’t want to miss any of the pretty views along the way though, so we decided to take a break in Luxembourg to stretch our legs. The city was bigger than expected but we found our path to the old city center and admired the architecture and local savoir-รชtre. We only had two hours to kill before our next train, so we grabbed a beer before heading back to the train station to pick up our luggage that we left in storage. The following two hours from Luxembourg to Brussels were the longest hours of our lives. We were crouched up in a double seater with our feet on our luggage, trying not to fall asleep on each other. When we finally arrived, it was completely dark outside and we used Google Maps to guide us to where we were staying.

The house we are staying at is a three story house with 8 roommates scattered through the space. Each one of them is unique and friendly and this is the place we will call ‘home’ for just a little week. The floors are the vintage original wood that crack under your feet when you tiptoe, and the walls and surfaces are covered with random pieces of art, drawings, books and notes. There is an extra guest in the home, Pompom, who is apparently a cat that just showed up one day and didn’t leave. We met Pompom when he came into our room while we were in the shower the first night and ate all of our lunchmeat that we had bought for a snack during our travels. (You can spot Pompom in the picture). We spent the first couple of days here sleeping and resting. If you don’t consider the roommates, this is the first time my wife and I are alone in a space since before we started our travelling adventures back in January, so we are enjoying the quality time.

Between cuddles and naps, we have been planning our next steps, except the only things that attract us the most are the things so much more complicated. Instead of just Bruxelles, we have decided to span out into Amsterdam and London too, so we have been planning the logistics on how to make this happen. Our trip to Bruxelles is therefore cut short by a few days, and we will be leaving here on the 11th to take the EuroStar to London, how sexy and exciting. Honestly I’m really looking forward to it, my wife has been telling me about how amazing London is and how much she wants to take me there since forever, and I really couldn’t project to when that would be able to happen… yet here we are. London we will only stay a few nights before we blast off via the EuroStar to Amsterdam, where we will be spending three nights visiting the city, seeing as much art as we can, visiting all the little streets and eating local food. Amsterdam is also a destination that hasn’t really been on my list, but I’m excited to be going super soon ๐Ÿ™‚ I think I am most excited about the art that I am going to see between the two countries, there is a lot of Picasso and some more Matisse, and I have already seen both of their works in Paris and NYC this year, so getting to see even more will complete a little collection I have going on in my head. There is also plenty Van Gogh in Amsterdam, so I highly doubt we will ever be bored.

All this being said means that in the course of one month, we will have visited the following : Switzerland, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, England, France and Belgium. I don’t know how we are still standing, as just in the last year we have visited ten countries. When I first got with my wife, I knew she liked travelling, and I did as well, but I never expected to be moving around this much. I, on one side, look forward to settling down for a while in a place we can call home, where she is already looking forward to our four month trip around Asia planned for 2026.

Once we are done with this big trip, we will make our way back to Switzerland to pick up Grimes in German-speaking Switzerland, to return to French-speaking Switzerland to gather all of our belongings that are currently in boxes, to move them all to the next step… because in about one month exactly, I will no longer be able to share the Chronicles of a Homeless Traveller.

BUT, that excitement must stay for another day, because we still have about…. 5 BIG trips to get through before I share our future plans ๐Ÿ™‚

Initially I came to blog to share why I am a little absent the last few days, which is only due to the fact that I have been either on the road or sleeping, but I of course ended up oversharing.

I will try and be better in the days to come with blogging & vlogging, and I look forward to taking you along with me.

All my love.
